Right clicking on the desktop opens a menu with a terminal (good!), the termail starts in ~/Desktop (bad) Certain system tasks (like cron) still send mail to root. Ubuntu hates root, so mail to root goes to nobody. Not all the gnome-games run, some might not be installed. I heard a rumor that a near future kernel bug might fix the problem, so fingers crossed. I have been careful to only open one firefox window immediately after booting whilst searching regularly for a fix of some sort. Sometimes when I open or close Firefox, X will freeze (ctl+alt+bksp to restart), crash to login screen, and sometimes a hard lock requiring a system reset. The only major issue I have at this time is an interaction between the AMD catalyst driver (12.6) and Firefox. The upgrade was straightforward, most of the changes to configuration files were easy to copy over with the major time sink involving Bacula. I recently upgraded my main server (email & media primarily) from Ubuntu 10.04 LTS (lucid) to Mint 13 (Maya) with the Mate desktop primarily because of bugs in the Unity desktop, and thus far I am pleased. I think that's the case for Ubuntu and Mint. I'll be honest, never used Mint in the long term (I just tried out some versions of it), but I guess it's like Ubuntu, an OS that just works.ĭon't get me wrong, basically any Linux OS just works, just some are easier to get things working on. MGSE probably aren't the greatest effort in UI development, but they can sure help GNOME 2 users in the migration to GNOME 3.Īnd anyway, some Ubuntu users might like Mint's GNOME more than Unity. The out of the box experience is just perfect (even on live session), there's preinstalled software for everything, even multimedia codecs. Plus, Ubuntu packages are usually well made and probably you can find one for every application you need. No doubt Ubuntu is the most common Linux OS nowadays, so finding information about it is as easy as searching on Google.Īnyway Linux Mint it's quite popular too. One its point of strength is probably it being Ubuntu-based. Linux Mint is a very good Linux distro in my opinion.
